Fiesta by Diaz

I really enjoyed the story Fiesta by Diaz. I felt so sorry for the poor boy Yunior. His father, OMG! I can't believe that his father the SOB would actually take his son to meet 'the other woman.'

The party was a great part of the story. I think that the tia was brilliant. She reminded me of a busy body. She was trying to get some dirt on the father, but I thought that it was funny that Yunior was like 'I'm not telling her.' He loved his father, but didn't love the things that he did.

I feel that he was sick, because of the smell of the car. American things made him sick. He's just getting use to the new surroundings. It's like when I take my friends home, they get car sick, because they are use to the straight and narrow, instead of curvy roads. Yunior, isn't yet use to the American life.

Overall, this was the best story!

  1. The father and son's relationship is kind of a strange one. Do you think he actually loved his boys? He never really seemed to warm with them.

  2. I think that he loved his kids. He just never showed them. The Puerto Rican woman knew him when he arrived, so obviously, the father talked about them. He worked to put food on the table. I think he loved them, just never told them or showed them in a nice way.

  3. I was wondering what role that the mistress played in the story. After reading Amber's comment, I think that she may have been a clue to the father's love of the children. The fact that she knew Yunior is smart, hints that the father does care for his kids.

  5. You're right. His father was an SOB. I liked this story the best, too.
